Park and Rec Commission
April 5, 2012
Members: Robert Dunn, Roger Zito, Mary Ellen Garbarino, Missy Garvin, Glynn McAraw, Chairman, Donald Bugbee, Director, John Flower and First Selectwoman Bonnie Reemsnyder. Timothy Gavin, absent.
Minutes of the March 1, 2012 were unanimously approved with the following corrections
Guest: M. Nichele spelled incorrect and was in attendance.
Selectwoman Reemsnyder, brought information that the Board of Finance approved $30,000 for repair of the fields at Town Woods. She had a meeting with an organic specialist Dr. Jerry Silver, at the fields. Dr. Silver took a soil sample which was sent to UMass. He remarked that the fields were in better shape than he expected. He also reiterated what many others have said “can’t go cold turkey” in changing the way the fields are maintained. When the results of the samples are received and recommendations given, a bid package will be put together.
Programs: Yoga session #4 goes until May 30th
Sunday Adult Basketball finished
Wednesday nite Adult Basketball goes until June 6th
Summer staff: 90% confirmed and rehired. Most of last year’s employees
are returning. 2 openings to be filled. In very good shape.
Summer Programs are in place. Still working on location for Basketball
Camp.
Sign-ups will start first of May.
Safety Committee had their third meeting. The town is required to have a safety committee, the purpose being to set safety procedures and protocol for all town departments.
Public Works have been fixing up some Park and Rec facilities, i.e painting, reline parking spaces, etc.
Don spoke about the need for a security camera inside the building at Town Woods.
He will get cost information.
Roger asked about monies from parking lot being used by Park and Rec for emergencies
Selectwoman mentioned that the budget for 2012-13 has been set, and that there are plans
in the works for improvements to the “View.”
Brought up about having a “ calendar of limitations” for use of the fields at Town Woods
Discussed at length Lacrosse Club use of the Town Woods Fields. A motion was made “that the end of using the Town Woods facilities will coincide with the Conni tournament
on June 10th.
